Under the Cap and Trade Bill, the Federal Government will usurp the authority of the local governments, as it establishes federal building codes. The damage this will do to the economy is substantial. One of the defining characteristics of a free-market economy as well as a democracy is the right to private property. When the Federal government begins to trump that right, you should be VERY concerned. This expansive motion to centralize government control in personal rights as well as economic freedom is damning personal rights to make choices. The government will soon influence your economic freedom to choose the type of mercury-filled light bulb you turn on as you read to your children before bedtime.

The amazing thing to me is heavy industry is so reliant upon energy that a bill such as this one will damage even further what used to be our competitive advantage. Companies will find it's cheaper to manufacture overseas where there is no cap and trade and will move manufacturing away from our shores.
ReplyDeleteOnce that happens we can be brought right to our knees by countries who cut off our receipt of infrastructure goods. We won't be able to produce what is needed to build, repair or replace roads, water and sewage lines, bridges, rail roads, etc. We'll be in deep doo doo.
And the above doesn't even talk about loss of high paying jobs. Will there really be that many new jobs as has been predicted? Put me down as skeptical.
One thing for certain, with the loss of productive industries the carbon foot print will be less, but so will our standard of living.
